TAJIKISTAN

Tajikistan sits right at the heart of the mountains that so define Central Asia. The Tajiks speak an Indo-European (rather than a Turko-Altaic) language and are more closely related to the Iranians than to the rest of their Central Asian brethren. This relationship has bequeathed the Tajiks with the rich shared-heritage of the Persian world, which is evident in their poetry, writing, art and crafts.
