Tajikistan sits right at the heart of the
mountains that so define Central Asia. The Tajiks speak an
Indo-European (rather than a Turko-Altaic) language and are
more closely related to the Iranians than to the rest of their
Central Asian brethren. This relationship has bequeathed the
Tajiks with the rich shared-heritage of the Persian world,
which is evident in their poetry, writing, art and crafts.
